Angela Speck is the co-chair of a national task force preparing the U.S. for a total eclipse of the sun that will occur on August 21, 2017 (three days after TEDxKC). She will share insights into the total eclipse and how communities and organizations are preparing for it — and why Missouri, is expected to be one of the best places to experience it.

When it comes to eclipses, 99.9% right is 100% wrong. Find out why umbraphiles (lovers of eclipses and shadows) will travel great distances in pursuit of scientific discovery and the ultimate reminder of our tiny place in the universe. Angela Speck is a Professor of Astrophysics & Astronomy and Director of Astronomy within the Physics & Astronomy Department at MU.
